My husband and I would sing hymns driving to church on Sunday mornings when we were home, or we would sing as we were driving across the country from meeting to meeting. We also sang in our home together. He loved to praise the Lord in song! Neither one of us could sing a lick, but we sure were able to “make a joyful noise unto the Lord.”
Listen to Dr. Williams sing in this Facing Tomorrow Segment:
Singing praises to the Lord is so healthy. It refreshes our spirit, turns our hearts and minds away from complaining, and cheers us up whenever we are a little–or a lot–depressed. My husband would say, “Songs should be sung to the Lord, for the Lord and about the Lord.” Singing the Lord’s praises reminds us that it is the Lord who is in control. It also helps us to see adverse situations that come into our life in a different light. Songs of praise remind us that our God is mighty! He is able! He is our Protector! He is our Provider! He is our Advocate! He is our Strength! It’s so refreshing to think on things that are good, rather than on things that aren’t.
When I don't feel like singing, II Chronicles 20:22 convicts and encourages me to sing anyway, because when I read, And when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come against Judah, and they were smitten, I'm reminded that God will fight for me in whatever difficulty I'm facing. When my husband was so sick he was still singing. One of his favorite hymns was, God Leads His Dear Children Along. At one point in his illness, he was weak, and his voice wasn’t strong, but when we sang that hymn no one would have known it, he sang with such strength and ever so loud. It was such a blessing to my heart to listen to him singing.
My husband also wrote songs and poetry. A song he wrote a few years ago Bailey’s Grove Baptist Church sang for him in a service. It was titled, The Father Himself Loveth Me.
The Father Himself Loveth You
The Father Himself Loveth You
Jesus said it—I know it’s true,
Oh, great God, can it be,
That the Father Himself loveth me?
The Father Himself sent Jesus to die
On Calvary’s cross for you and I.
Oh, great love denied His Son’s cry,
For the Father Himself loveth you and I.
The Father Himself wants us to pray,
Crying out in Jesus’ name day after day
Oh, hallelujah, then pray through,
For the Father Himself loveth you.
The Father Himself will say,
“Son, go get your bride today.”
Oh, then Heaven ours will be,
For the Father Himself loveth you and me.
The Father Loves You
Let me encourage you to sing today! Make melody in your heart to the Lord! Sing out His praises! You will be strengthened and refreshed. You will find that God is BIGGER than your difficulty, and He will be magnified in your heart rather than your problem.
