On each Facing Tomorrow radio broadcast, Dr. Williams would read a hymn, and often he would share commentary on it, which I always enjoyed hearing. Sometimes our life circumstances become overwhelming and facing each new day is a struggle. It certainly was for me, as a new widow, striving to obey God’s will and go forward with the Tom Williams Evangelistic Ministries. I know it was for my beloved husband who became a widower in his early twenties, and as a result a single parent to a 2 year old son and newborn daughter; and then, going through the heartache of his baby daughter’s death not long after his wife had died.

On the sink in our bathroom sat a small chalk board, with the heading, I love you because… and then we took turns filling in the blank with the reasons we loved one another. The chalk board remains on the sink and the last thing I wrote on it has not been erased. I simply wrote two words to complete the sentence I love you because— You Persevere. My husband was known for prayer and faith along with many other qualities, and one of those qualities was that he persevered.

As a follower of Jesus Christ, we have a peace that passes understanding; a peace that remains regardless of our circumstances. Our outward circumstances may change, but the peace of God never changes. In the midst of uncertainty, upheaval, or unrest due to certain circumstances in our lives, we can still have that undisturbed peace within.
