Lift Up the Name of Jesus

If it was one thing my husband attempted to do, it was to lift up the name of Jesus Christ, and his preaching and teaching is such a testament to that fact. I think that was also one reason behind why he was so bold in his preaching, teaching and personal witnessing—he was unashamed of Jesus and didn’t care what anyone thought about him, only what they thought about Jesus Christ. Plus he wanted to please the Lord. He would often say, Why would you be ashamed of Jesus?—He’s the One who cleansed and made us clean by the shedding of His blood.

We cannot be the personality of Dr. Tom Williams, but we can be surrendered and obedient to the Holy Spirit like he was. He wasn’t perfect, but as he testified several times, Like David, my heart never wickedly departed from the Lord. So how can you and I lift up the name of Jesus Christ and make him known to those we come into contact with? 1. We can take time each day and spend it at Calvary by going to John 19. Think about what the Savior suffered for you and for me. Think about what the Heavenly Father suffered, for after all it was He who laid upon His only Begotten Son the iniquity of us all. Think about the hell that the Lord Jesus Christ took for us, and by redemption through Him, we will never know the anguish of Hell. Think about the love that compelled the Father and the Son to redeem us. 2. We can daily surrender our will to the will of the Father, and say, Yes, Lord. Laying down our own desires and pursuing the desires of the Lord will strengthen the Holy Spirit power within us to be better witnesses for Jesus Christ. 3. We can humble ourselves in His sight and ask for His help. He’s already told us that we can do nothing apart from Him, but it takes humility to realize that truth. 4. Get our mouths open and talk about the Lord Jesus Christ everywhere we go and every time the Holy Spirit nudges us to speak His name to someone. 5. Seek opportunities to show kindness to someone. Those opportunities are all around us, and some are within our own families. An act of kindness lifts up the name of Jesus Christ louder than words, and opens doors to be a verbal witness that mere words couldn’t open. 6. Strive to be patient with that annoying person in your life, whether they be your co-worker, neighbor, or family member. Lift up the name of Jesus by bearing long with those who are difficult to be around, and then realize that quite possibly you just might be that annoying person to someone. 7. Give it forward without expecting anything in return. There are so many ways that we can practically lift up the name of Jesus and make Him shine. Let’s pray for one another that we will be regularly lifting up the name of our Lord Jesus Christ! He is worthy! Holy is the Lamb!

Reflections:
What can I do today to lift up the name of Jesus Christ through my words, actions, and attitude?
Is there someone God has placed in my life whom I can show Christ’s love to through kindness, patience, or a word of witness?
