He Has Never Let Go

I taught swim lessons last year to some children, and I am teaching again this year.  This morning God taught me a lesson from my students.  I have been in a severe trial of my faith that has just about gotten the better of me, but for God’s grace and my husband’s recorded sermons and radio broadcasts.  This morning I was posed with a question that I couldn’t answer at first because I didn’t know if the answer, No, was God’s will and wisdom or my flesh and fearfulness, so I waited to answer. As I waited, I opened my Bible and began to read at the place where I had left off yesterday–Revelation.  As I read verses 10 and 11 in chapter 12, my heart and soul began to magnify the Lord! Then, my thoughts went suddenly to a couple of my swim students–a new child this year, as well as a child I taught last year.  The new student with a fear of the water and all of its unknowns continued to tense up and take quite awhile to do a task we were working on to get acclimated and comfortable with the water even while I was holding him. He heard me say I wasn’t going to drop him or let him go under, but he still didn’t trust that completely. This morning as I thought of my words to this boy, I won’t let go, and I won’t let you sink. Have I ever let go of you? I could hear the Lord’s voice saying to me, Have I ever let go of you? And as my student answered me, No, you haven’t, I answered the same to the Lord.  Then I thought of the other student. Last year he never got in the water the first two days, because he was so fearful, but he did finally get into the water without resisting.  This year on his first day, we spent maybe a minute outside the water, because he was ready to get in.  His first day this year, he laughed, went under water, began to learn to float, and jumped into the pool.  He had learned to trust me at the end of last year and this year he continued to trust me. God had made clear to me how I was supposed to answer the question; I had to answer, Yes, and trust the Lord to take care of the rest.  He has never let me go!  He has never failed me! And He isn't going to start now.

We are all, at some level, in the school of faith learning to trust our Most High God!  This morning I also heard so clearly my husband as he would often say, The priests had to put their feet in the water before the Jordan river parted in order that they could walk across. That is found in Joshua 3:15-16. Sometimes it’s frightening–this life of faith, but Hallelujah our God and Father is exceptionally patient with us.  As I have been patient with my students in the pool, our Father is ever so much more patient with His children. I have had to listen and get to know the children so that I would know when they would be ready for the next step even though they may not think they’re ready, and–Wow! Our Father knows us exceedingly more than we know ourselves, and will never do anything or lead us into anything that He didn’t already know would be ok for us. 

We have an enemy that doesn’t want us to go forward in faith, he wants us to remain fearful, and he will do just about anything to keep us from believing the Lord.  But we have been given a shield of faith that if we continually use it, the Bible says it will deflect those fiery darts from the devil–Ephesians 6:16.  Be encouraged today if you are in a trial of faith, remember, our Father will never let you go!
