He's Able

Click the button above to hear a short clip of Dr. Williams' sermon, Don't Build Little.

Ephesians 3:20 tells us God is able. Jeremiah 32:17 tells us that nothing is too hard for God.  My husband constantly encouraged God’s people to believe that God is able.  His preaching and teaching were continually challenging us to think BIG when we go to God, and ask BIG! I can hear him saying right now, Don’t think little when you think of Almighty God, believe that He is able to do whatever you ask of Him! In these last several months I have been challenged more than ever to believe that God is able, and I am finding Him extremely able! Our flesh, however, is certainly weak—anyways, my flesh sure is.  I have had to fill my heart and mind with promises from God’s Word that clearly states He is able, as well as listen over and over to specific Facing Tomorrow radio broadcasts and sermons that my husband preached regarding this topic.  One thing my husband often said in his preaching was, Our problem is that we don’t think very big when we pray. Ephesians 3:20 tells us that He is able, but the end of that popularly quoted verse tells us that it is according to the power that worketh in us.  That power is the Holy Spirit of God that is working in us.  He is working in us to believe, to think BIG, and to ask BIG when we go to the Father with our requests.  Our Father is able to give strength, to give ability, to pay those bills, to provide food, to make the house payment, to arrange opportunities for us to win souls to Christ, to heal our bodies, to teach a Sunday school class, or anything else it may be that we are asking of Him.  Take time today and think BIG when you think of God; let the Holy Spirit of God work in you to believe that He is able.

Reflection Questions

  1. Where in your life do you find your faith shrinking your requests to God? What fears or assumptions cause that?

  2. How have you experienced the Holy Spirit working in you to increase your faith or to help you ask bolder prayers?

  3. Can you name a specific time God did something beyond your expectations when you (or someone you know) dared to ask big?

  4. What promises from Scripture can you feed your heart to help you “think big” when you pray?

  5. What one “big” thing will you entrust to God this week — then what is one immediate step you can take in faith toward it?
