Shout the Victory in Jesus

Praying John Hyde, a missionary to India in the early 1900’s, was one of the men who greatly affected my husband’s life of prayer and faith.  John Hyde was a man who gave himself to prayer for the souls of men and the work of God.  If you haven’t ever read the book titled, Praying Hyde, I would highly recommend it.  Several years ago, my husband and I were in Illinois where he was preaching a revival meeting.  One day, while we were there, we drove the short distance to where John Hyde was buried.  That day as we drove into the cemetery and parked at the grave site, we noticed two men from India were kneeling at John Hyde’s grave marker.  As we got out of our car and walked to the grave site, the two men rose, and we greeted each other.  They were two men who had been indirectly affected by John Hyde for Christ, because their great grandparents had been won to Christ through John Hyde.  My husband and these two men knelt down and prayed together for America, India, and the world that souls would be won to Jesus Christ and that Christians would draw nearer to Him.  When they closed their prayer and stood up, I walked around to the back of the headstone and noticed the words that were written there in the Hindi language.  I asked the two men what was written there, they said, It reads, Shout the Victory in Jesus Christ. That is what we as Christians today need to do—Shout the Victory in Jesus Christ!

In Mark 4:35-40 is the account of the disciples with the Lord Jesus in the boat that was in the midst of a raging storm.  In verse 35, the Lord Jesus said, Let us pass over unto the other side; and then, in the following verses we read of how there arose a great storm that beat upon the boat, and it would seem that the ship was going to go down and they were all going to perish.  However, when they went to Jesus, He was asleep in the back of the boat.  As I have recently read this chapter, I can so clearly hear my husband’s voice as he preached out of this portion of Scripture, saying, That boat, that boat is going to the other side, because Jesus said it was! In verse 40 Jesus gently rebuked them asking, Why are ye so fearful? In essence, He was asking them why didn’t you shout the victory in the very face of the storm?

It is much easier to trust when the sun in shining then when the storm is raging, but when the Lord Jesus Christ is in our boat, and He has commanded us to go forward or to do something that seems overwhelming, we can be sure that with Him we can face and conquer any storm.  Therefore, while in the storm may we Shout the Victory—Jesus Christ is in the storm with us.  George Mueller, the great man of faith was asked one time how to obtain great faith, to which he responded with, The only way to obtain great faith is to endure great trials.  We never really know how much faith we have until it is tested in the fiercest storms, and with the Lord Jesus on board with us, our faith is able to shout the victory because of Him.  

Whatever difficulty you are going through, however overwhelming it may seem to you, remember that the Lord Jesus walked in the fire with the three Hebrew children—Daniel 3:24-25. May you also be encouraged with Isaiah 43:2-3a— When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned;

neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.  For I am the LORD thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour. We are able to Shout the Victory in Jesus Christ, because He has already won the victory, and He is always with us.  He will not fail us nor forsake us!
