Trust Me

Throughout the Christian life, our Heavenly Father is constantly speaking to us these powerful two words, Trust Me.  He continually asks, Will you trust Me?

When we’re up between a rock and a hard place like Moses and the children of Israel were—the Red Sea in front of them and Pharaoh's army closing in behind them, He says, Trust Me.  When things don’t turn out the way we had expected, He says, Trust Me.  When the way isn’t clear to us, He says, Trust Me. And as we read throughout the Bible, we read how the Almighty God—our Father—made a way when there wasn’t a way.  As just noted, He made a way for the children of Israel through the Red Sea.  He made a way for Joshua and the children of Israel at Jericho.  He made a way for Gideon and his army.  He made a way for Daniel in the lion’s den. He made a way for Shadrack, Meshack, and Abednego in the fiery furnace.  He made a way for David when he fought Goliath.  The Lord has made a way for person after person throughout the Bible.  We could also say that He has made a way in our own lives, If we would take time to think of all the ways He has worked on our behalf. I can think of many times when there didn’t seem to be a way, but God did make a way.

My husband frequently came up against a seemingly “impassable Red Sea” but our Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, always made a way. I always liked listening to my husband share the time when, in his early years of being an evangelist, he and his family didn’t have any money to even buy groceries, but the Lord told him to go grocery shopping. According to his testimony the conversation he had with the Father went like this: Father, we don’t have any money to buy groceries, to which the Father responded, I didn’t ask you if you had any money, I told you to go grocery shopping.  So, he got his wife and children, and they drove to the grocery store.  There was more than one grocery store in their town, so he asked the Father, which grocery store he should go to, and then drove into the one that the Father guided him to.  This is the part that has always stuck with me—he told his wife, Pam, Since it’s by faith, load up the cart!  Dr. Williams always said that it doesn’t take any more faith to buy a jar of peanut butter than it does to buy a cart load of groceries when you don't have the money to buy either one.  When the cart was filled to the brim, he started for the check stand, and as he did so, a well dressed lady stepped in front of his cart and said, Sir, God just told me to buy everything in your cart.

Faith is an action word that is built and strengthened by the Word of God, which then enables us to act when we don’t see any possible way.  Our God is a Mighty God, and He still reigns from glory on high.  He has made a way for others, and He will make a way for you and me.  When my husband acted upon faith in our marriage, he always had Scripture that he referenced to, and that was always a great source of security to me.  Our Father  has a higher plan and a greater way, which will bring Him the most glory.

I recently watched the Sight and Sound play about Queen Esther with my family. In that play, there is a resounding theme to “be still and know that He is God!”

Life is seldom calm and both that play and this post have been a good reminder to be still, know that He is God, and we can ALWAYS trust Him!
