Confidence in God

Fear doesn’t have to render us unable or incapable of moving forward with our life task at hand, but it certainly is able to do just that.  Fear is a real enemy of our confidence in God.  The Lord has given us so many promises in the Bible on which we can stand and face fear with courage through the power of the Holy Spirit.

“And the LORD, he it is that doth go before thee; he will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed.”--Deuteronomy 31:8

“Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them; for the LORD thy God, he it is that doth go with thee, he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.”--Deuteronomy 31:6

Last year during my husband’s health journey first with his heart, then with the blood block in his leg, and ultimately in the severe infection that engulfed his foot, I went for walks and prayed before and during each major hurdle, and each time I did, the Lord strengthened me with a particular verse or passage from the Scriptures.  God’s Word always quieted my heart and empowered me to be my husband’s help, encouragement, and strength that he needed as he went through declining health.

“But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”--Philippians 4:19.

That verse quieted my fears about the surmounting bills that were coming in during his illness.  I rested upon that promise that the Lord had given me, and He was good for His Word.  When my husband went on into Heaven every hospital, doctor, or health related bill was paid in full.  All the funeral expenses were paid in full as well.  The Lord did supply all our needs, and I praise His wonderful Name!

All of that confidence in God was so strong while my husband was living; however, it weakened not long after he died.  When he was alive, and even though that year he required total care, his presence alone was a strength to me. His praying always quieted my rising anxieties.  The Word and my husband’s presence gave me strength and confidence. After my husband died, I began to think God supplied because it was for Dr. Tom Williams. Afterall, it was Tom Williams who believed God, who knew how to pray and get hold of Heaven.

However, the Lord in His infinite patience and love helped me to see Satan’s lie that was being put before me.  God’s promises are not only for a select few; they are for anyone who will believe Him.  Our strength comes from being confident in the Lord and not in ourselves.  My husband constantly was saying, God is just waiting for someone to believe Him. Confidence in God will put fear to rest.
