On Time

We are so programmed to believe something has to happen on a certain time frame, in a particular way, and if it doesn’t then we get into a fretful dither and begin to take matters into our own hands, and we may even begin to doubt that prayer works. God’s Word is our solid ground to walk on, and it cannot fail us, because He will not fail us. However, we are no different than Martha and her sister Mary, who had sent and asked for the Lord Jesus to come because their brother Lazarus was seriously sick and close to death. When the Lord Jesus arrived, Lazarus had been dead for four days, and each sister said to Jesus, “if you had been here our brother wouldn’t have died.” They, like you and me, thought it was over, they called and God didn’t answer. However, the Lord Jesus was not late, and it wasn’t over—He was right on time! His delays teach us to look to Him, depend more greatly upon Him, and He is glorified in a far greater way. Nothing is ever about us or our way, it is all about Him and His way. He is the way!
Take some time to listen to this segment of Dr. Williams' radio broadcast:
He is the one who stood on the dawn of creation and simply spoke and stretched out His arm and the heavens and the earth were created. He knows the number of every hair upon our heads. He knows when a sparrow falls, because, as my husband has said, the slightest thing that sets His universe off balance He is acutely aware of. Therefore, all that He does is never late—He is always on time!

Reflection Questions
Have you ever felt like God was “late” in answering a prayer? What did He teach you through that waiting?
How has God’s timing proven to be better than your own plans or expectations?
What area of your life do you need to stop “taking into your own hands” and trust God’s timing instead? What is one area in your life right now where you sense God saying, “Wait—trust My time”?
When you look back over your life, how many times can you honestly say, “He wasn’t late—He was right on time”?
As you move forward, how can you make your waiting seasons times of worship, not worry?
