Seek First

In these past several months following my husband’s passing, the Lord’s answer to my queries have continuously been, Seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness. (Matthew 6:33). After the second answer of Seek Him first, I wrote it on my board in my prayer closet as a reminder that this is what He wants me to do. How easy it is to want to do everything else but that. I sought Him first about going to specific conferences to have a ministry table in order to make people aware the ministry was going forward. He taught me to wait on Him as I sought Him, and each time I sought and waited, He always gave me clear and precise direction. At one point I had gotten myself into a fine fix in which I wondered how do I take care of this? I knew the Lord wanted me to go to this one conference, and I also had His ok to speak at a ladies retreat; however, I had the dates wrong. What I thought was going to be a week apart, was one day apart. As I went to book my plane ticket for the conference and realized the mistake I had made, I made the choice to leave the conference a day early which would get me to the retreat in plenty of time. The problem was that I made the decision without really seeking the Lord, and a couple days later, the peace in my heart was disturbed over it. I began praying and asking the Lord to show me what to do about it. The answer came after weeks of praying. In a Sunday school class I attended, one phrase arrested my attention; They rationalized their actions, which was exactly what I had done in deciding to leave a day early from the conference. the Holy Spirit then spoke to my heart and said, swear to your own hurt. (Psalm 15:4) So, that afternoon, I called and changed my ticket with the idea that I would have to pay the cost of the difference in price. The Lord not only gives us perfect guidance when we seek Him, but He also deals with us in mercy. The ticket was changed, the price was minimal and the church hosting the ladies retreat was gracious and paid for it. As followers of Christ, we need to seek Him first about everything from the smallest to largest undertaking.
